Apple Cider Brats

My husband gets credit for this one again.  I usually braise bratwurst in Sam Adams Boston Lager.  Tonight, we didn't have any and neither of us really felt like going to the store.  Matt got the great idea to just use some hard cider that had been hanging around in the fridge.  It turned out so delicious!  I think I may make it this way from now on...

Apple Cider Brats

5 bratwurst
  • In a non-stick pan, sear the brats on both sides over medium-high heat until very dark brown.  About 2 - 3 minutes per side.
  • Once seared, pour the entire bottle of hard cider (or dark beer) into the pan, cover, and reduce the heat to low.
  • Simmer for 25 minutes until completely cooked through.
  • Serve on a good, bakery bun with mustard, sauerkraut, etc.
As a side, we like to eat this with roasted red potatoes or even mashed potatoes.
